MTI’s Reception Area Must Have’s

A patient-oriented reception space that is aligns with your practice and cliental, is crucial for creating a memorable first impression. A functional and positive surrounding is our first priority when designing the perfect reception space. Let’s get started as we dive into the 4 must-have’s for your next office renovation!

1. Determining the Design Theme

When choosing a design theme, at MTI we gravitate to office design theme’s that are both timeless and accurately reflect the office profession as well as their clients. Taking the type of client into consideration will greatly impact the interior design and its unique features. For example, lets look at the different design details that an orthodontic office vs a paediatric medical office require for their reception atmosphere;

Orthodontic office: Open concept design, privacy walls for guests, minimalist style chairs and tables, mature and refined design patterns.

Paediatric office: Sectioned off seating/waiting and play area, comfortable seating with lots of space and tables, child friendly activities ie; interactive puzzles or coloring books and a television with children’s shows.

From these two examples, keeping the client in mind is key! Knowing your audience, should always be top of mind and will keep the design plan focused.

2. Multitude of Interesting Lighting

Everyone knows it’s all about the lighting. Keeping it light and bright is the first step to creating a welcoming and upbeat feeling for patients and can make a space feel much larger. Before choosing lighting, consider the following: wall color, reception area size and pre-existing natural light exposure. When it comes to light ambiance, the 3 main types of lighting that are typically used in offices are: LED, fluorescent or incandescent lighting. These options offer different hues of lighting as well as efficiency differences. Our last tip is to make your office lighting interesting, try an elegant or bold light fixture for design interest.

3. Choosing Comfortable and Stylish Seating

Choosing the perfect seating style can make long visits to the doctor, dentist or dermatologist less stressful and more comfortable for guests. From the size of the seat cushions, material and positioning of seating, these are all important details to consider. In addition, allowing an appropriate amount of space between seating and adding tables for personal belongings, provides patients with a sense of privacy. It is also preferred that seating is arranged so patients have a clear line of sight, this brings comfort to those waiting and allows them to be completely aware of their surroundings. There is definitely more than meets the seats when designing for your guests.

4. Brand Oriented Color Palette

Staying on brand is extremely important for when patients meet you in-person. Keeping with neutral wall colors like white, grey and beige allow you to feature bold accent colors/patterns that are signature to the brand, logo or practice. This ensures that you have cohesive recognizable flow from online to in-person. Ways to implement color when designing your practice is through accent pillows and wall art.

In building a positive rapport with new and old patients, redesigning your reception area is the best first step in maximizing the inside appeal of your practice. Patient-focused design ensures that you are maximizing the potential of the space and creating a connected and comfortable experience for everyone for years to come.
